MILWAUKEE -- Bay View will welcome a new equine facility to house Milwaukee Police horses next fall.

The 30,000 square foot facility will have 24 stables, indoor and outdoor riding areas and community rooms.

The horses will also take part in an approved equine-assisted therapy center which is estimated to engage approximately 5,000 children annually.

“Far too many young people in Milwaukee do not have sufficient opportunities to heal from exposure to chronic trauma,” said lead sponsor Ald. Zielinski.

The therapy will also be provided to veterans through a partnership with Zablocki VA Hospital.

The alderman also hopes that through the outreach and educational programs, community members can learn more about MPD and equine practices in a positive, year-round setting.

"This will no doubt foster improved community-police relations,” Zielinkski said.
