College students from across the country brave the elements at Oshkosh event

Winter is making its return to southeastern Wisconsin after several days of record breaking temperatures. By Friday morning, Oshkosh was already blanketed with several inches of snow.

The wintry mix came just as hundreds made their way from across the country to attend a college employee recruiting event called the Oshkosh Placement Exchange. For some from southern states, it brought a new experience.

“I prayed for it and I did my dance, I did everything because I haven’t seen snow,” said Arkansas State student Austin Copeland.

“It’s always nice to see snow, it’s always nicer to leave snow,” added Matt Brigner from Georgia College.

Brigner said the toughest part of venturing 1,000 miles north during winter seems like a simple task.

“Trying to stay upright has been difficult enough,” he said.

Brigner was part of a group of recruiters looking for prospective employees. Seniors from more than 35 states traveled to Oshkosh in hopes of landing a job on university campuses across the country.

While few admitted to forgetting a coat, Ivory Beasley of Arkansas State came prepared for all elements. Although, she won’t be partaking in sledding and snowball fights during her stay.

“The most fun weather activity that we’ve done I think is looking from the window and saying that snow is so pretty, I’m glad I’m not out in it right now,” said Ivory.

The Oshkosh Placement Exchange ends on Sunday. With more winter weather expected Saturday, those traveling far are hopeful a storm doesn’t put a damper on their plans for a safe return.
