MILWAUKEE — Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, parts of Capitol Drive will be closed for construction.
The road will be closed under Port Washington Road for demolition of the North Port Washington Bridge, according to the release.
Here are the following traffic changes, as a result of the future construction:
- A lane of traffic moving in each direction will be maintained on West Capitol Drive by routing traffic onto the entrance and exit ramps from North Port Washington Avenue.
- The ramp from Interstate 43 northbound to eastbound Capitol Drive will be closed.
- North Port Washington Avenue will be closed to through traffic in both directions.
Once the bridge demolition is complete May 13, a bridge pier will be constructed.
This is expected to last until mid-June.
Once the new bridge pier is underway, here are the following traffic changes:
- A lane of traffic moving in each direction will be maintained on the outside lanes (curbside) of West Capitol Drive.
- The entrance and exit ramps from West Capitol Drive to North Port Washington Avenue will be open, with one lane of traffic maintained.
- The ramp from I-43 northbound to eastbound Capitol Drive will remain closed. (Scheduled to reopen in fall 2019)
- North Port Washington Avenue will remain closed to through traffic in both directions.
