MILWAUKEE -- Thousands of people laced up their sneakers in Milwaukee to run and walk down Wisconsin Avenue Saturday morning for what’s considered one of the largest and longest-running fundraising events in the state.

“This is one of our most important events of the year," Peggy Troy, president & CEO of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, said.

"We just treasure this walk," she continued.

The money raised over the course of the Briggs & Al's Run & Walk for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin 40-year-legacy directly impacts the care Children’s provides. 100% of the funds raised by participants are used to support programs and services that prevent and ease the suffering of sick children.

"The families that have been treated at Children’s want to give back and the families that know what we’re able to do want to give, and it doesn't get better than that," Troy said.

According to Troy, the Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk event gives the community a chance to celebrate the brave children Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin serves while giving hope to kids and families who might be currently going through a difficult time.

“It just warms my heart," Troy said,

"I get tears in my eyes because I just know that we’re so blessed to be able to take care of them and just really happy that we can make their lives better," she continued.

In the last 39 years, the event has raised more than $19 million that has benefited the thousands of children and families who are served every year by Children's Hospital.
