Brewers and Bucks success a reminder of how far Milwaukee has come

Posted

Just five years ago, the Brewers were struggling to have a winning record and Fiserv Forum wasn't even a thought.

Bucks fans were more concerned with pronouncing a five-syllable Greek name.

But things have changed quickly. The Brewers are playing in game 6 of the NLCS on the same night Fiserv Forum is having its first regular season NBA game.

Both teams are showing they have a bright future.

"Opening day is always special," Dustin Godsey, Chief Marketing Officer for the Bucks said. "For this in here, the first home opener in the new building and all the excitement in the city, it's a special, special day."

"We're certainly rooting for them," Bucks President Peter Feigin said. "We think this is what's exciting. To be a hopping city, this is what you wish for. You wish to be on the national platform, have a playoff run in baseball and start your NBA season. It's pretty exciting."

The Brewers and Bucks will start big games in their respective history just nine minutes a part. Close to 70,000 fans will pack each stadium to, hopefully, witness some history.

At Fiserv Forum, they don't want fans to miss a second of the action from either game.

"We'll definitely have the Brewers game on TVs throughout concourses and in the clubs," Godsey said. "By the time our game ends, it will probably be the 6th or 7th inning for the Brewers game. We'll have it on in the beer garden out here as well."

It's quite a dilemma for the Milwaukee sports fan. For Milwaukee, it's a problem they love to have.

"We all win when those teams are winning or they're hot," Claire Koenig, Communications Manager with Visit Milwaukee said. "It's great."

There are no concrete numbers yet on how much of an impact the Brewers playoff run and opening of Fiserv Forum have had on the city. Those types of statistics come out in the Spring of next year.

But Visit Milwaukee has already heard praise.

"A lot of [people] are locals," Koenig said. "But a bunch are staying in hotels too. We have about 16,000 hotel rooms and it's incredibly hard to find space right now in those hotel rooms. That's great for restaurants, bars, attractions as well. Having the national media eye turned towards Milwaukee is great for everyone."
