WHEATON, Ill. -- Bond has been set at $1.5 million for the Wisconsin man accused of shooting an Amtrak conductor in Illinois earlier this week, according to DuPage County officials.
79-year-old Edward Klein, of West Allis, is charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
Klein is accused of firing one shot out of the window after the train pulled into the Naperville. The bullet struck the Amtrak conductor in the abdomen, and he had to undergo surgery.
“The charges against Mr. Klein are very serious and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said. “While the injuries sustained by the victim in this case are quite severe, it is my sincerest hope that he will make a full recovery and be back on the job soon."
Klein's next court appearance is scheduled for June 12.
