A beloved Riverview Middle School teacher in Plymouth lost his year-long battle to cancer on Saturday.
Mr. Petrie was diagnosed with Lymphoma in October of 2015 and stopped teaching earlier this year. His wife, Lori Petrie, says he died around 3 p.m. Saturday.
On Friday, a day before his death, his students surprised him by taking their homecoming to him. Hundreds of students and the school band showed up at his house and played "Take me Out to the Ball Game."
He told TODAY'S TMJ4, everyone has a legacy and the students of Riverview made him realize his.
Students cried when they saw how fragile he was. Yet, everyone encouraged him to continue fighting.
