BEAVER DAM, Wis. - A Beaver Dam bicyclist was injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash with a semitruck in Dodge County, officials said.

Dodge County officials responded to a motor vehicle vs. bicycle crash around 3:20 p.m. on County Road S at the intersection of South Center Road in the township of Beaver Dam, according to a release.

Larry Bilke, 67, of Beaver Dam, was riding a bicycle east on County Road S toward South Center Road when the crash occurred and he was thrown off his bike, investigators said.

The 2016 Kenworth truck, driven by 59-year-old Jeffrey Ziehme, of rural Juneau, was going east on County Road S, approaching the same intersection when Bilke initiated a left turn onto South Center Road, according to the release.

Ziehme swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision with the bicycle, but the right side of the truck struck the bicycle, investigators said.

Bilke was taken to Beaver Dam Hospital and then transferred to UW Hospital. Ziehme was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
