For the third time in six months, Ashley's Que is forced to close its doors, at least temporarily, because of a disaster. The latest occasion is due to a fire at the Walker's Point location.
"We've had a lot of trials and tribulations within the past six months," said Jessie Goodman, the general manager and owner's daughter.
The first disaster happened back on Labor Day in 2016. The owner, Darnell Ashley, talked to us after a car drove into the business at 15th and Center.
"People were sitting here," said Ashley, pointing to the missing wall. "Again, thank God no one was killed."
But Ashley got up the next morning, started cooking, and opened up the restaurant. Then right around Halloween last year, a fire broke out in that location.
That blow meant the north side location had to shut down. But the family was not detered. They told their customers to visit the 2nd St. and National Ave. location as they rebuilt the other one.
"We were relying mainly on 2nd and National for business and such and we were doing very well," said Goodman.
But that all changed Tuesday afternoon when their manager says some grease caught fire.
"The hood just caught on fire and I tried to put it out but it got worse, and I still was trying but there was too much smoke so we had to get up out of there," said Tyanna Currin, the manager of Ashley's Que.
Everyone made it out of the building safely, but the family says right now they don't know what's next.
"It comes as a shocker right now," said Goodman. "We just stay positive, keep hope alive."
