MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee Public Schools campaign to provide internet access to all families received a big boost from an anonymous donor.
The donor pledged $260,000 to the #ConnectMilwaukee campaign. The MPS foundation has a $1 million goal so that all families can have internet access by next school year. Combining the anonymous gift with other money received thus far from over 100 donations, the funds total $300,000.
As MPS Foundation Executive Director Wendall Willis says, “It’s not every day you receive a check for a quarter of a million dollars.”
“This campaign resonates with me because of my first-hand experience,” the anonymous donor explained. “I’ve witnessed the additional challenges and barriers MPS students face because of their lack of access to reliable internet for academic achievement, especially now with COVID-19 making it essential that virtual learning be made possible.”
While greatly encouraged by the community support thus far, the foundation’s $1 million goal remains a tall task.
“Whether MPS Foundation receives $5 or $500, every dollar counts when it comes to helping children,” said Willis “We are humbled and encouraged we’ll be able to meet our goal of raising $1 million for MPS students and families.”
