WISCONSIN — The American Red Cross is seeking volunteers as hurricane and wildfire season continue.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Red Cross is already seeking more and more volunteers. However, now they're also dealing with hurricanes and wildfires, causing them to be even more short-staffed.
That's why they're now asking for local volunteers to help with health services and shelter needs.
According to the Red Cross, they need volunteers to help staff shelter reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information collection and other vital tasks. They have both associate and supervisory level opportunities available.
Additionally, they need anyone who is an RN, LPN, LVN, APRN, NP, EMT, paramedic, MD/DO or PA with an active, current and unencumbered license.
These volunteers will help assess people's health in the shelters. Roles are also available for Certified Nursing Assistants, Certified Home Health Aides, student nurses and medical students.
In a press release, the American Red Cross said they need "volunteers who can provide care as delegated by a licensed nurse in shelters. This could include assisting with activities of daily living, personal assistance services, providing health education and helping to replace medications, durable medical equipment or consumable medical supplies."
