As car thefts continue to increase in the City of Milwaukee, 5th District Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd has partnered up with local businesses to make free wheel locks available for 5th District residents.

This comes after an uptick in thefts, especially in the 5th District neighborhoods Cooper Park, Kops Park and Nash Park.

“Families have been experiencing difficult times since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and for families also experiencing vehicle thefts, their troubles are enhanced tenfold,” said Alderwoman Dodd. “I’m proud that local businesses have stepped up to offer support to families in the form of free steering wheel locks to help combat vehicle thefts. My hope is this will be one small act that can provide peace of mind to those already dealing with so much stress and uncertainty.”

Steerling wheel locks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to one per household.

You can sign up for a steering wheel lock here.

Residents selected will be notified via their preferred contact method noted on the registration form.

After being connected, residents can pick up their wheel locks at Lisbon Avenue Ace Hardware at 8325 W. Lisbon Ave.

Alderwoman Dodd partnered with the following business to make this available to residents: Lisbon Avenue Ace Hardware, Ruby Isle Auto Tire Service and Sales, Bunzel's Meat Market, El Greco Restaurant and Kam's Thistle & Shamrock.
