A doctor from Alabama has been charged with prescribing the drugs that lead to the overdose death of a former member of the band Three Doors Down.

Matthew Roberts was found dead in a West Bend hotel room in August.

Richard Snellgrove, an M.D. from Fairhope, Alabama has been indicted and arraigned on charges that he prescribed the substances outside the usual course of professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose.

According to an indictment released Tuesday, the doctor prescribed the powerful painkillers methadone, hydrocodone, lorazepam and fentanyl to different people on five different occasions, knowing they'd end up in Roberts' possession.
