After 19 years of service, Milwaukee police horse retires

MILWAUKEE — The alpha male of the Milwaukee Police Department's Mounted Patrol Foundation retired Tuesday after 19 years on the job.

At 22-years-old, Prince was the oldest member of the mounted patrol unit. He is a Percheron Cross with Quarter Horse and stands 16.1 hands high and weighs 1,620 pounds, according to the MPD Mounted Patrol Foundation's website. He joined MPD in 2000 and became a member of the mounted patrol unit in 2004.

He is retiring to his new home at a private stable and will be cared for by his partner of 15 years, Officer Stephen White, and his family.
