It's the 50th Anniversary of the Milwaukee's Fair Housing March and the activist group March On 50 Milwaukee is hosting an event Marching On 50: Years in the Making.

Community leaders are looking to pass the torch of activism this weekend.

Local activist Adam Carr says the event is a way to have the city's youth regroup, get educated and continue the fight for equality.

"This isn't just a lesson, this isn't just history, this is inspiration that Milwaukee needs today," said Carr.

Carr has teamed up with former 1960s Youth March Commando Fred Reed to get the event up and running. Reed says it's time to reignite this movement because the fight isn't over.

He wants today's youth to address not just housing, but police community relations, health care, and other huge problems plaguing the inner city.

Carr says the event is also a celebration to honor the marchers and say thank you. There will be activists, performers and politicians speaking to all generations about the importance of the movement.

Marching On 50: Years in the Making will be held at North Division High School from 1 p.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19.

This event is free and open to the public, for more information click here
