LA CROSSE, Wis. -- A 90-pound brat was returned to an American Legion Post in La Crosse after it was stolen early Friday morning.
WEAU-TV reports the “Golden Brat” was taken off its grill around 3 a.m. morning. The suspects dropped the 8-foot-long brat behind the building and it fell into three separate pieces.
Bartender Cali Hoffman says that a lot of people put in a lot of work to prepare the bratwurst.
"It was just like a tradition that we have here it's kinda like a lot of money wasted, a lot of time, preparation wasted. I know that the people have been cooking it since 9 o'clock last night, been here all night, didn't sleep anything like that and people just stole it just for fun and games," Hoffman said.
Although the brat could not be served, it was still sliced up as tradition.
Police are still reviewing surveillance video to figure out who grabbed the extra large brat – and returned it.
