8 West Bend high school bowlers, 1 coach hurt in bus crash

KEWASKUM, Wis. -- Eight West Bend high school bowlers and one coach were hurt when their school bus was involved in an accident returning from a competition Monday night, Superintendent Don Kirkegaard said in a statement.

The students were traveling back to West Bend from Campbellsport around 6 p.m. when their school bus ran a stop sign and slammed into another vehicle, according the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The bus was carrying members of the West Bend East and West Boys Bowling Teams. A chaperone on the bus was also sent to the hospital. He is expected to be ok.

All of the students involved are members of the West Bend East and West boys bowling teams, Superintendent Kirkegaard says.

Three of the students were taken to a hospital to be examined. The rest were released to their parents.
