Serenity Sunde, a 7-year-old who spotted a fire at a West Bend car wash last month, was honored for her quick thinking Friday.

State Sen. Duey Stroebel and state Rep. Bob Gannon presented Serenity a legislative citation thanking her for her willingness to assist her community, and a reminder to other children to aid in their neighborhood.

Serenity spotted the fire while she and her uncle were driving by. He didn’t stop after Serenity pointed it out, and she began to cry, thinking someone could be hurt.

He then understood the situation and helped extinguish the blaze before the fire department arrived.
