MENOMONEE FALLS -- A 5-year-old Menomonee Falls boy is teaching us a lesson in compassion.

Meet William Phister.

On Saturday, William and his friends made appreciation bags to the entire Menomonee Falls police staff.

After hearing about the recent attacks on police officers he knew he had to do something, so he went to his mom for help.

"I saw on the news and told my mom a police officer died," he said.

"I went on Facebook and asked some moms if they'd be interested, and it's turned into way bigger than I expected it to be," Elisabeth Phister said.

William surprised the department with the bags Saturday.

In total, the group gave out about six dozen appreciation bags.
