MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police have identified the teenager shot and killed on the city's northwest side Sunday night.

Shamaury Young, 16, was one of four teens shot at approximately 7 p.m. at the Spring Terrance Condominiums near 76th Street and Silver Spring Avenue.

Police said the other three teenagers, ages 16, 17 and 19, are still receiving medical treatment.

Officials said Young was “on an ankle bracelet for a previous armed robbery” and had been arrested for armed robbery in May 2014 and March 2015.

Charles Searcy, who manages the property where the shooting occurred, said he doesn’t know why the teenagers were inside.

“They were not supposed to be here. They don’t live here,” Searcy said. “I’m still trying to find out why they were (inside) and if people knew they were there, why no one called 911...We’ve got a lot of good owners who’ve been living in this neighborhood a long time. You don’t see many problems out here.”

Police said they’re looking for at least one known suspect in connection with the shooting. They’re still working to establish a motive.

Maurice McClendon, leader of the group “Stop the Violence Milwaukee,” said Sunday’s shooting is the latest example of teen crime in the city.

“Whenever I see stuff like this my heart breaks, because I have four daughters in this age range,” he said.

McClendon said he hopes his organization will inspire others to get involved in steering teens away from bad decisions and violence. He said that can be done through the use of community centers or individual mentoring to provide young people with constructive ways to occupy their time.

“Our goal is to stop the killing and the violence,” McClendon said. “It’s tough seeing our young people get caught up in these senseless acts of violence."
