GREEN BAY -- I-43 was shut down for a 30-car pileup on the Leo Frigo Bridge Tuesday.

During a news conference, authorities say 30 vehicles were involved. Authorities said they're sending a bus to the crash site to transport people to safety.

Officers have shut down the highway to process the crash scene. Drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route of travel.

Traffic engineers are monitoring city intersections and working with the police department to minimize traffic backups in the city, according to the Green Bay Police Department.

Police Capt. Kevin Warych says there are multiple injuries, including broken bones, but he couldn't say how many people have been taken to hospitals. Warych says city buses have been sent to the bridge to keep those involved in the crashes warm. Temperatures are in the single digits in Green Bay.
