MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department has issued nearly 3,800 parking citations during the snow emergency.

On Saturday morning, the Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) issued a snow emergency for Milwaukee, causing parking rules to change. Since then, police have issued thousands of parking citations to Milwaukee residents.

According to the Milwaukee DPW, nearly 3,800 citations were issued overnight Saturday through Sunday morning. This is slightly less than the amount issued during last snow emergency, when the total was about 3,850.

Saturday night there were 142 second violators, which is a $100 citation.

DPW said this low number of second violators is "encouraging as we would like to increase compliance so our equipment can better access streets to more effectively clear snow and ice."

The snow emergency is expected to extend through Sunday night and into Monday morning.
