SUSSEX -- Two people died after striking a tree stump in the Village of Sussex Thursday night.
The crash happened at approximately 11:40 p.m. near Maple Avenue and Donna Drive.
Authorities said the driver was going north on Maple Avenue and lost control on the wet pavement south of Donna Drive. The car crossed into the southbound lane, left the roadway and struck a very large four-foot-high tree stump.
A 28-year-old woman from Menomonee Falls and a 24-year-old man from Burlington were pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.
