BRISTOL — "About a quarter-mile away, from winning for the first time? Mayer has done it. He has won, at Bristol!" NASCAR Announcer Dave Burns says.

Winning a NASCAR Trucks race. The second youngest ever. During the playoffs. In his 7th try? Sam Mayer can only say: "What? Oh my gosh, Bristol dude!" Franklin racer Sam Mayer says.

"It just happened so quick. I was like oh gosh, we can win this thing now. But yeah, when I got out of the truck, it was a, it was kind of surreal. Like I couldn't breathe."

What makes it all the more special? The Lombardi Foundation, and Bart Starr Children's fund was on the side of Sam's ride.

"Sam has had some of the biggest names in sports that he has been able to drive. Whether it's Russell Wilson's foundation. Whether it's Carson Wentz. Pat Connaughton. But certainly being able to see the Starr Children's Fund on there, on this historic night for Sam! Being able to talk with Cherry Starr, and Bart Starr Junior. They were in it and as part of it as much as we were," said Chellee Siewert of Capture Marketing.

Yet Sam's greatest challenge? Might be with his school work.

TMJ4 Main Sports Anchor Lance Allan asks the bigger challenge might be catching up on your online learning. And school?

"Yeah, I'm about a week and a half behind right now. A week and a half behind right now. And it, I have to go to work!" Mayer says.

You tend to forget. He still is, 17.
