11 things to expect at this year's Christkindlmarket

MILWAUKEE — The Christkindlmarket is returning to the Deer District for its second year on Nov. 15.

There will be food, drinks, collectibles and gifts throughout the holiday season. Twenty-eight vendors from Germany and places across the U.S. will be set up. Here's 11 things to expect at this year's Christkindlmarket:

  1. Baked Cheese Haus is one of the many vendors that will be at the market. It's a Wisconsin cheese-making company from Mineral Point that specializes in Alpine raclette, baked cheese and hot Honeycrisp apple cider.
  2. Bienes Honighaus is a company from Augsburg, Germany that makes products from honey including candles, candy, soap and more.
  3. United Donauschwaben of Milwaukee is a German dance group that consists of dancers ages three and up. They have a children dance group, youth dance group and adult dance group. They dance a variety of dances including polka, waltz, schottisches and Laendlers.
  4. Glaszauber Lauscha is a hand-blown and hand-painted ornament company from Lauscha, Germany.
  5. Käthe Wohlfahrt of America is from White Bear Lake, Minn. and is originally from Rothenburg, Germany. It specializes in holiday gifts including ornaments, nativity scenes and more.
  6. Milwaukee Pretzel Company will be selling handmade Bavarian pretzels. The company was started by a Milwaukee couple who lived in Munich, Germany for a year.
  7. The Children's Lantern Parade will be held Dec. 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The parade will be lit up with lanterns, and Christmas carols will be sung through the streets.
  8. Otavalo Inka is from Ecuador and specializes in leather purses, backpacks and bamboo jewelry. It also sells alpaca wool sweaters, ponchos, scarves, gloves and hats.
  9. The Austrian Lodge is from Stockerau, Austria. The company sells traditional Austrian food and beverages.
  10. Euro Express is a traditional German-American band that specializes in traditional Oktoberfest style music. It will performs at the market every Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  11. Wooden Wonders is an eastern Europe company that specializes in hand-painted and carved wood such as decorations, ornaments and more.

The German holiday market will run until Dec. 24.

The outdoor holiday market came from Germany to Chicago in 1996 and expanded to Milwaukee in 2018. For more information, visit the Christkindlmarket website.
