10-year-old bruised after gun goes off in school, employee arrested

An employee at St. Josaphat Parish School has been arrested after their gun went off in the school and struck a child nearly two weeks ago.

Police say a bullet bruised the 10-year-old, but did not penetrate the skin.

The incident happened April 5, but police were not notified until April 17.

The employee will face charges in the coming days.

St. Josaphat Parish School issued the following statement in response to the incident:

St. Josaphat Parish learned that a school employee recently brought a weapon onto school property and the weapon was accidentally discharged. An internal investigation was commenced, and the employee has been terminated. St. Josaphat has notified school families about the incident. The Parish continues to make the safety of its students and school a top priority. St. Josaphat has also notified the Milwaukee Police Department about the incident. The Department is investigating and the Parish is fully cooperating with the investigation.
