1 injured after house explodes in Fitchburg

26 surrounding homes were damaged

FITCHBURG -- A man is in critical condition after a house explosion in Fitchburg Thursday night.
 
First responders were called at 6:45 p.m. to a home near Cheryl Drive and Lyman Lane.
 
WISC-TV reports that the 57-year-old man was found in rubble in his front yard. 
 
The station also said that three houses received major structural damage and 23 other structures received minor to moderate damage. 
 
Fitchburg Fire Chief Joe Pulvermacher told WISC-TV it's likely some of the damaged houses will have to be demolished. 
 
The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time.
