1 dead, 2 injured in crash involving wrong way driver on Milwaukee's south side

MILWAUKEE – One person was killed in a car crash involving a wrong way driver on Milwaukee’s south side Sunday morning. 

It happened just before 6 a.m. near the intersection of S. 27th Street and W. Cleveland Avenue.

According to police,  a  21-year-old man was driving a 2005 Acura TL northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic at a high rate of speed.  He struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that was driven by a 37-year-old man.  A passenger of the Hyundai, a 27-year-old man, died at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.  The driver of the Acura was taken into custody and also hospitalized with serious injuries.  

Police say charges against the driver of Acura will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.
