I-43 crash leaves car in nearby woods; closed lanes lead to delays

UPDATE 10:15 P.M. October 22: North Shore Fire and Rescue providing additional details into Monday's accident.

They confirm two females in the 20s were extracted from the vehicle, which took between 30 to 40 minutes.  They were transported to Froedtert Hospital, one by Flight for Life, for treatment of critical/life-threatening injuries.

An investigation continues by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

A crash on I-43 southbound sent a vehicle far off the freeway and into nearby woods, causing crews to close freeway lanes leading to traffic backups.

The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. on I-43 southbound in Glendale between Silver Spring Drive and Hampton Avenue. Flight for Life headed to the scene around 3 p.m. Rescue crews had placed stretchers on the road.

The vehicle appeared to be overturned in the woods.

The right two lanes of the freeway were closed as crews went to the scene for the rescue.
