The Mitchell Park Domes are trying to find a new way to make money, and leaders may be turning to newly legalized hemp farming as a new source of revenue.

According to our partners at the Milwaukee Business Journal, Milwaukee County Parks issued a request for information for the domes about growing hemp in its greenhouses.

The request is for information on, "the potential to grow and produce industrial hemp, hemp seeds, and cannabinoid oil or constructing a grow education resource center at the facility.”

"There’s lots of different visions for the Domes and the board of supervisors wanted as much info as they can get on all of those ideas," Ian Everett, a spokesman for Milwaukee County Parks, told the Business Journal. "At this stage, we're opening it up to experts in the field to see if it's at all a viable option."

Everett told the Business Journal that the hemp idea is one of several looking at how to make the domes profitable.
