Santa Claus made time during his busiest day of the year to drop by Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to visit babies at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Danica Schraufnagel and her mom, Rebekah, were one of the lucky ones to spend some time with Santa.
Danica is still supposed to be in her mother’s womb, but she was born 6 weeks before her due date and weighs four pounds.
She’s connected to various monitors and relies on a feeding tube. But on her first Christmas, she looks very much at peace.
“So far I think she's pretty content,” Schraufnagel said.
Mom has been staying at Children’s Hospital away from the rest of the extended family, who live an hour away, but visit as much as they can.
Instead of wishing for material things, Schraufnagel has a very different Christmas wish this year.
“That we don’t have to live somewhere else and we’ll all be together,” Schraufnagel said. “She is our Christmas miracle. We’re very happy.”
The family won’t be able to go home until Danica reaches her next milestone, being able to to eat on her own.
