MT. PLEASANT, WI - Mt. Pleasant police are getting ready to give a little Christmas cheer to a number of deserving families in the neighborhood they serve.

The department is hosting its first ever community Christmas party, and the response from neighbors has been astounding.

“A lot of the families in the neighborhood don’t have a lot," Officer James Kelly said.

"It’s nice to give back to the community," he also said.

That’s why officer Kelly and his partner, Frank, are making a list, and checking it twice —they’re also wrapping a room full of presents so no child goes home without a gift before Christmas.

“I thought toys wasn’t going to be enough," Kelly said.

I figured let's get something that these kids can use, [and] the families can use and I thought pajamas was a good idea," he also said.

The community Christmas party is happening Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Community Oriented Policing house or COP house in Mt. Pleasant. So far 100 people have RSVP'ed.

“They do all kind of parties," said 9-year-old Davontay Harried.

"I'm excited for the presents," he also said.
