Valerie Lighthart: Meet the Milwaukee musician who literally does it all

MILWAUKEE — Valerie Lighthart has all the tricks and trades to be a major performer and then some.

The Milwaukee native plays guitar, writes songs, makes movies, acts, and is a model. Right now, she is focusing on her music career, though. In fact, she performed for the first time at Summerfest on Wednesday July 3 at the Johnson Controls World Stage.

"It's exciting to be here," Lighthart said.

She is part of the emerging artist series at Summerfest. While she didn't win the competition, she is certainly putting her name on the map. It only took a year for Lighthart to go from singing in someone's yard to performing on a Summerfest stage.

"My first show ever was about a year ago. It was just during a walking street festival. I played in somebody's yard. A couple months later I released my first single. A couple months after that I got signed to my label M43, and now I'm playing Summerfest, so it's kind of nuts," Lighthart said.

In a video interview, TODAY'S TMJ4 caught up with budding artist, and put her musical and quick-thinking skills to the test.
