MILWAUKEE -- Summerfest may be known for its big name sponsors and big name headliners, but right outside the grounds, there are local street vendors trying to make a name for themselves.
“I want to patronize people who are trying to make away for themselves," Craig King said.
“I think it’s an asset [to have these vendors out here for] some of the people who can’t afford big spending and Summerfest itself," he continued.
Craig King, a Milwaukeean, said he attends Summerfest each year and has done so since the 80s. However, before going into the grounds he likes to make a pitstop to support a small business.
"You can come out and get somewhat similar [food] for a lesser price," King said.
David Robertson, the self-proclaimed "Superman" of hotdogs, says he appreciates whatever support he can get from people like King and other Summerfest patrons, especially since business on the street isn’t always booming.
“It has its moments," David Robertson said.
"Somedays can be slow, some days can be busy. It’s usually more near night time is when we get hit like crazy," he continued.
But Robertson isn’t the only one sometimes struggling to capitalize on the Summerfest crowds. Those working in the private parking industry also admit making a profit this year has been tough, mainly because most people like Kelly Carreiro said they rather take an Uber to the Big Gig.
“It’s just a lot easier," Carreiro said.
"It’s more convenient. you can just have someone pick you up and drop you off, it’s really really awesome," she Continued.
