Blues legend Bettye LaVette to headline Black Arts Fest MKE

MILWAUKEE — Bettye LaVette is scheduled to headline Black Arts Fest MKE at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Johnson Controls World Music Stage.

The festival, which celebrates black heritage and culture, will be from noon to midnight at Henry Maier Festival Park on the Summerfest grounds.

LaVette, who performed for Barack Obama during his inaugural ceremonies, has won Blues Music Awards as the Best Contemporary Female Blues Singer and the Best Soul Female Blues Artist.

SWV (Sisters with Voices) also is scheduled to perform at 10:15 p.m. at the Miller Lite Oasis Stage.

Advance adult (ages 12-59) tickets can be purchased for $9. The gate price is $12.

Tickets for youth (ages 8-11) and seniors (60 and older) cost $8. Children 7 and younger and military and veterans with a photo ID and proof of service will be admitted free.
