MADACC: Fourth of July busiest season for runaway pets

Firework shows and dogs don't mix, and while the 4th of July is traditionally the main day families barbecue, spend time outside, and shoot off fireworks, July 5th is traditionally the busiest day for the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission because the fireworks scare them, causing them to run away.

In Riverwest local dog owners Naomi Negron and Emily LaCalamica know their puppies Ledger and Penelope aren't big fans of the loud, bright show, so they're left at home.

The two are split on how they'd handle of a runaway dog. Negron says she'd post a picture on social media knowing the widespread of the Internet would reach the owner.

Yet, LaCalmica says taking the pet to MADACC is the way to go.

MADACC says they've only had 10 stray dogs come in within the last day and that's very low for them. But many fireworks shows were rained out and with the growing number of people using social media to reunite pets with their owner, it makes sense.

Gabriel Hammer is a big supporter of using social media. He's helped three owners find their dogs through Facebook.

Since shows were rained out, keep an eye on your pets, because many are being rescheduled for July 5th and 6th. If you're still looking for your pet, visit's MADACC's website.
