Make sure that the attorney is experienced in your type of legal situation, and that you understand their services and fee structure. It might also be a good idea to check out their background to see if any disciplinary actions have been brought against them.
In your initial appointment, explain your situation, and ask about your rights and how laws, legal procedures, or any other issues may affect your case.
Also, ask about how you will be charged for their services and get this information in writing.
If you are not comfortable with the attorney or have additional concerns, do not agree to further services until you check out other legal sources.
