Things to know when renting a moving truck

If you are renting a moving truck over the next few days, there are a few things that you might want to do to avoid having a problem.

The biggest headaches seem to come from lack of moving trucks being available, problems with returns and the total rental cost being more than expected.

To avoid some of these issues, reserve a truck well in advance and confirm the reservation.

Ask questions about who is allowed to drive it and what forms of payment are accepted. Read the terms and conditions, and ask questions about what is included in the rental cost, if there are added fees for gas, insurance, using items such as moving dollies or padding, and if there are penalties for cancellations or late returns.

And, also make sure that you understand how, when and where the truck is to be returned, and if there are added costs for returning the vehicle to another location.

A number of things can and do go wrong during a move. But, fortunately, many rental companies are good about trying to resolve things as fairly as possible. However, if you cannot reach a resolution with the business, you can always contact our Call 4 Action office for help.
