A number of cars were broken into or stolen in Washington County over the weekend and now police are investigating, trying to see who's responsible.
Kirk Crocker didn't know what was going on in his neighborhood this past weekend.
"It used to be a very quiet neighborhood," Crocker said.
He saw a high speed chase Saturday morning involving the Washington County Sheriff's Office and a car believed to be connected to multiple car break ins.
"He turned around probably doing 60 miles per hour down this road here which is usually a 30, 35," Crocker said.
Germantown police say since late Thursday their department has received at least six reports of cars and garages being entered and two car thefts.
"These were all crimes of opportunity (because) the vehicles were left unlocked. The vehicles that were rummaged through were all unlocked," said Germantown Police Captain Michael Snow.
People's personal belongings were swiped as the suspects came up driveways.
"It does appear they were just looking for easy targets to make quick access and get out as quickly as they could," Snow said.
So far no suspects have been arrested but police did release a picture of a suspicious car seen in the neighborhood over the weekend. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is also investigating. The office warned families of the suspicious activities with a long Facebook post over the weekend.
Police just want to warn families to be on notice and lock their things up.
"We don't want to make it easy on them, lock the vehicles up and when you can put your vehicle in the garage do so, make sure the garages are locked up," Snow said.
Residents are urged to contact police if you see anything suspicious or have any information about the string of break-ins.
