MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is praising the state representative who called for funding cuts to the City of Milwaukee over the city's crime rate; and at the same time is attacking a local newspaper's coverage of the story.
In a news release published Wednesday, Clarke said state representative Janel Brandtjen's (R-Menomonee Falls) proposal to cut Milwaukee's funding was "an act of political courage."
"What Milwaukee needs is no more, as in no more state aid, no more rallies, no more marches, summits or task forces," Clarke said in the news release. "Milwaukee needs to end these crazy social-engineering, criminal justice experiments and stop being stupid about crime."
The sheriff also heavily criticized the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for their coverage of the story, calling them "the propaganda machine of the Milwaukee Democrat Party and left-wing ideology."
"Journal Sentinel writers...wasted no time in dialing up a response from Milwaukee's one-trick-pony legislators," Clarke said.
Toward the end of his release, Clarke compared city officials to crack addicts:
"All of this has Milwaukee circling the drain...Like crack addicts, they are constantly asking for more money to fuel their habit," Clarke wrote.
Clarke was elected to his fourth term as Milwaukee County Sheriff in 2014 with 79 percent of the vote. You can read his full news release here.
