CALEDONIA — A father and daughter were killed Friday when an alleged drunk driver hit them just steps outside their home.

Caledonia Police were called out to 4 Mile and Old Farm Roads just before 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. According to investigators, a 25-year-old driver in a pick-up truck was  speeding when he rear-ended a family in a sedan.

"When our officers got there they tried to render aid to the little girl and the father, sadly the little girl was already deceased on scene," said Lt. Gary Larsen.

Police say 39-year-old Kevin Dalley and his 9-year-old daughter Emily died on the scene.

His 6-year-old daughter also in the car survived the crash.

According to police, Dalley was slowing to turn left into his neighborhood when the driver of the truck slammed into them from behind.

"It really brings it home to you when they're personal friends as well as church members," said Lynn Davis who knows the Dalley family from church.

Davis says Kevin and his two daughters were heading back from Chicago when the crash happened so close to their home, you can see the Dalley's house from the crash site.

Davis says the 6-year-old girl who survived the crash was released from the hospital and only lost a baby tooth as a result of the crash.

"We just hope that everybody adds them into their prayers for everything that has gone on in their lives," said Davis. "It's really sad and I feel bad for the family of the driver because you know it affects a lot of people."
The driver was arrested for two counts of causing fatality by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Police say this is his second OWI offense.

Police also said the driver did receive injuries in the crash but is expected to survive.

"This is holiday season. Their holidays will never be same all because some guy has to go out and drink and drive and do something horrible," said Lt. Larsen.
