Dr. Shane Fisher runs "The Kids Dentist" in Mequon. The pediatric dentist is making a positive impact outside Wisconsin.

Fisher explains, "Oral dental disease is one of the number one reasons children miss school. It's five times more common than asthma. Dental disease is a major problem that affects children."

Fisher has led dental mission trips for more than a decade treating patients just outside Guatemala City, Guatemala.  Dr. Fisher recently returned from a mission with 20 volunteers. His team  performed almost 1,500 procedures on 444 patients in two weeks.

Fisher is the U.S. Director of "Dentistry for All." The international non-profit group is dedicated to improving access to oral health care. In February, the group staffed their dental clinic in Guatemala with a full time Guatemalan dentist.

Dr. Fisher shares,  "They wait for us to come trip after trip after trip."

Villagers even gave a shout-out to TODAY'S TMJ4 and Positively Milwaukee for helping raise awareness of the program. "I'm very proud of our organization." says Fisher. He adds, "You go into pediatric dentistry because you love working with kids and providing for them. This is just another aspect of how I can do that. A rewarding aspect of the very gracious people in Guatemala."
