Suspects led police officers on a high-speed chase after allegedly stealing car batteries.

Brown Deer officers were made aware of the theft at Walmart on Brown Deer Road around 4 a.m. Monday. They tried to pull the suspect vehicle over when the occupants led them on a high-speed pursuit.

The chase wound through Brown Deer, Glendale and Milwaukee before officers used a PIT maneuver to force the vehicle to stop around 35th and Florist. The two suspects jumped out and ran from officers. One person was taken into custody, a 50-year-old Milwaukee man. The other got away and police say they believe they know who he is.

The suspects took 30 used car batteries, kept at the store to be recycled. Each battery weighed about 15 pounds bringing the total to 450 pounds. Police say the batteries were found in the trunk of the car. It’s believed the crooks may have wanted to recycle the high-value metals found in old batteries.
