A suspect in a car crash that killed one and left another brutally injured was charged with a hit and run.

According to Milwaukee County Court Documents, Corkey Mayer of East Troy was charged with two counts of hit and run, one causing death and another causing great bodily harm.

Mayer allegedly hit and killed Thomas Jorgenson with his car on Feb. 23 at 1 a.m. The medical examiner pronounced Jorgenson dead on the scene.

The passenger in Mayer’s car, Sara Kaufman, was treated for two broken femurs, a broken ankle, and she also had some of her teeth knocked out.

After the crash, Mayer reportedly took off on foot covered in blood.

Officers later found him trying to open a garage door and arrested him. They detected alcohol on his breath, and authorities said he seemed drunk. He also tried to fight off the officers and paramedics.

Mayer was taken to the hospital and received 20 stitches to close a cut on his lip.

Along with the two counts of hit and run, Mayer is also charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license. Together the charges against Mayer carry a maximum sentence of 49 years in prison.
