One of Wisconsin's most popular breweries is in the early stages of expanding its palate.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, New Glarus Brewing Co. is in the early stages of a plan to build a distillery.

Co-founder and brewmaster Dan Carey told WSJ that the project is at least a year away.

“Distilling is a natural extension of brewing because you have to brew before you still, so for us it’s an interesting and creative expression,” Carey said. “It’s going to take some time to figure out all of the idiosyncrasies of the new business. We need to decide what we’re going to do, where we’re going to do it and what we’re going to make ... while we’re doing all of the other things we’re doing.” - WSJ

A distillery would allow the company to produce spirits, but New Glarus has yet to obtain a license.

The brewery is known for beers such as Spotted Cow and Moon Man that are only available in Wisconsin.

Earlier this month, the company announced plans to start canning some of their beer by the end of the year.
