A Milwaukee landmark is closing its doors.

The Map Store in Wauwatosa Owner Jan Swain says nearly 80 years, it's just time.

“Technology has taken over; so many businesses have been affected by it," Swain said. "So much of our customers don’t need us anymore, they have a cell phone. Technology is devastating. It was a blessing for creating maps, but not for selling them.”

As for the future of cartographers...

“It is very, very bleak," adds Swain. "Everything now is GIS.”

If you want to stock up on some favorites, The Map Store will remain open until April, but you may not want to wait.

“The entire world came through [since the announcement]," says Swain. "I have never been so busy in 25 years.”
