MILWAUKEE - Select hospitals in the Milwaukee area are collecting hats for newborns this winter season as a part of “Little Hats, Big Hearts.”

As the temperatures get colder, members of the community can provide warmth for newborns by crocheting or knitting red hats. This program began in Chicago in 2014 by the American Heart Association, and has now expanded to more than 40 states. Hats will be collected in February as part of American Heart Month.

Participating hospitals in Milwaukee are

  • Ascension
  • Aurora Health Care
  • Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin
  • ProHealth Care
  • Froedtert Hospital
  • United Hospital System

Volunteers are asked to contact Colleen McInerny, the coordinator for the program in Milwaukee, for more information. Patterns for the hats can be found here.
