WAUWATOSA- The father of 25-year-old Jay Anderson says his son died way too soon.

"He was going to be turning 26 in a couple weeks and a good dude.  Worked, loved his family," explained Jay Anderson Senior, father.

He was a dad planning to marry the love of his life in August.

"Jay was very sweet like one of the sweetest people you'll probably encounter," said Shawn Perkins, a family friend.

Wauwatosa Police say an officer approached a suspicious car in Madison Park around 3 a.m. Thursday.  The officer found a man inside with a handgun in his possession.  Police say the officer feared for his/her own safety and discharged their own weapon striking the person inside.

"If he had the opportunity he would have surrendered," said Perkins.

Anderson died at the hospital.

"I'm not doing good at all. I just want to get down and see what happened that's basically it.  I want to see what went on why he was shot and killed," explained Anderson.

Family and friends are in shock.

"You have this sweet, gentle person who's life has been taken and for what no explanation.  We don't have enough answers," said Perkins.

Per standard protocol the  officer is on administrative leave and an outside agency, in this case Milwaukee Police, will take over the investigation.
