Five suspects were taken into custody Thursday in the shooting death of Department of Neighborhood Services employee Greg "Ziggy" Zyszkiewicz, Mayor Tom Barrett announced at a news conference Friday.

The shooter who took Ziggy's life is believed to be among those five suspects.

The murder of Greg "Ziggy" Zyszkiewicz has brought up many safety concerns.

"That particular block is generally safe.  We usually don't have any issues," said Alderman Russell Stamper.

Alderman Russell Stamper is in charge of the district near 24th and Cherry Streets where Zyszkiewicz was shot and killed in his car Wednesday afternoon. He has walked the block two nights in a row spreading the word about an upcoming block meeting.

"We're going to make sure every neighbor knows each other and are vigilant in their observations of what happens in the neighborhood," Stamper said.

The Department of Neighborhood Services employee was in his own vehicle at the time of the shooting, which is common practice. The home Zyszkiewicz was inspecting isn't considered a problem property and he didn't request backup.

"Our employees are given latitude to double up.  Do not continue on with an inspection should there be rowdy circumstances on that block re-schedule it come back at a different day," said Preston Cole, commissioner of the Department of Neighborhood Services.

Cole also said safety changes are on the table.

"Everything's in play.  We certainly are reviewing lots of policies and procedures.  Things that continue to work for us things that we would take a look at," Cole said.

Though safety is the priority for city workers, today space to grieve is what the commissioner says his employees need first.

"We met as a group.  We have absolutely been rocked to our core," Cole said.
