Crews have started trenching the lines for the Milwaukee Streetcar along St. Paul Avenue, and the construction is in full swing.

Workers are chipping away at the concrete and making way for the rails to be laid within the next couple weeks.

The city of Milwaukee says most residents won’t notice much of a difference from regular street work, but some streets will be closed. Second and 3rd Streets will be closed at St. Paul Avenue through June. Other streets will likely see lane closures when the rails are being laid throughout the remainder of 2017.

The streetcar is slated to open in 2018 with a total cost of $128 million. Riders can expect to pay $1 per ride during the first year it is operational.
